10 is the maximum for Windows XP and Vista. This is due to a limitation in “Display Properties”. I have not tested it myself, but I have herd of enthusiasts breaking the 10 display barrier after using UltraMon. And other 3rd party applications.
Side note: Windows NT does not support multiple monitors.
